Mariah Carey apparently knew about Ringlight before anyone else did.
They say don't meet your heroes, but if you're Britney Spears and that hero is Mariah Carey, that rule doesn't necessarily apply. In Spears' new memoir, The Woman In Me, the 41-year-old superstar details the beauty advice she got when she first met Carey at an awards ceremony in the early 2000s.
"I knocked on Mariah Carey's dressing room door. When she opened the door, it was so beautiful and otherworldly, and Mariah Carey was the only one who knew about ring lights over 20 years ago," Spears writes in her book.
According to the "Gimme More" singer, Carey taught the pop star how to take the perfect photo. 'I asked if I could take a picture with her, and I tried to get one where we were standing, and she said, "No, I'm not going to take a picture with you. This is my light. This is my light. I want you to stand here so you can see my good side.
Spears won an award that night, but the "real award" was to take a snap with Songbird Supreme. 'I did everything Mariah Carey told me to do,' Spears adds in chapter 10 of her book, released Tuesday, October 24. 'Of course, she was completely right about everything.'
In an August 2020 Instagram post, the "Fantasy" singer gave fans a peek at her current selfie lighting setup. Since that fateful day with the Princess of Pop, technology has advanced, and Carey has taken full advantage of it, with two bulbs now illuminating her beautiful complexion.
It's easy to tell from her recent photos where to shine the light and which side (the right side, that is) is her favorite.
