Matthew Perry: 'Friends' Cast Issues Joint Statement on Actor's Death

After Matthew Perry's tragic death at age 54, the cast of "Friends" took time to mourn privately before sharing their loss with the world. [But on Monday, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc released a statement to People.

"We are all utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are family. There is so much to say, but for now we will take time to grieve and process this unfathomable loss," they wrote.

"In time we will say more when we are able. For now, our thoughts and love are with Matty's family, his friends, and all who loved him around the world."

These thoughts echo comments previously made by industry insiders about the five "Friends."

"The performers are devastated by the loss of their brother. They are just devastated."

Other cast and crew members of "Friends" also shared their grief over Perry's death.

Maggie Wheeler, who played Janice, said, "What a loss. The world misses Matthew Perry. The joy you brought to so many in your all too short life will live on. Every creative moment we shared was such a blessing."

Sarah Ferguson, who once had a cameo in Friends, said, "I remember how thrilled I was to meet a natural talent, a comedian, and a wonderful actor. It is a tragedy to lose you this early in life, rest in peace, dear Matthew ...... You brought so much joy and laughter to so many."

Morgan Fairchild, who played the mother of Perry's character Chandler on the show, said, "I am heartbroken by the untimely death of my 'son' Matthew Perry. It is shocking to lose such a wonderful young actor. I send my love and condolences to his friends and family, especially his father, John Bennett Perry, who I worked with on 'Flamingo Road' and 'Falcon Crest.' #RIPMatthew"
