Ariana Grande gives "space" to Ethan Slater, who is divorcing estranged wife Lily Jay.

To say the least, Ethan Slater's relationship with his estranged wife Lily Jaye has not been good. In case you were wondering, Slater is dating his Wicked co-star Ariana Grande (she herself has an estranged spouse, Dalton Gomez, but Grande and Gomez seem to be on much friendlier terms). Slater and Grande were legally married when they began dating.

According to People, Slater was spotted last weekend leaving the UK, where "Wicked" was being filmed, and returning to New York. Days after filing for divorce from his high school sweetheart Jay, the magazine reported that Slater was seen around the city, FaceTiming with Grande.

After meeting on the set of Wicked, "It was clear from early on set," a source told People of their chemistry. 'They were very sweet to each other and were often seen laughing together. People thought they were happily married and didn't expect them to hook up, though. Another person told "People" that Grande and Slater became romantically involved only after they both began separating from their spouses, but some accounts refute that notion.

While completely understandable, the breakup was "devastating for Lily," one source said. 'They were together for a very long time. They met in high school. They were inseparable."

According to Page Six, Grande is giving Slater, who is going through a divorce with Jay, "space" to "work things out," including a custody agreement for their 11-month-old son. Grande and Slater have reportedly not seen each other for several weeks, but the magazine reports that they are nonetheless still dating.

"Ethan is trying to take the high road and hopes he can resolve this situation for the kids," a source said, per Page Six. Access reported that Jay is "focused on (her) son" and is "doing his best to navigate the spotlight that (she) has never wanted or experienced before."
