Jamie Lee Curtis on supporting her transgender daughter: 'Being a parent is love'

For Jamie Lee Curtis, there was never any question about supporting her daughter Ruby Guest after she came out as trans: she loves her child no matter what.

On a recent appearance on Morning Joe, she spoke about her sweet relationship with her guest.

"This life is about love. Being a parent is love and I love Ruby. I love her," Curtis said (via Entertainment Weekly).

"People have told me, 'It's so great that you accept her love. This is my daughter, and this human came to me and said, 'This is me. And my job is to say, 'Welcome back. I will fight and defend her right to exist against anyone who claims that she does not exist.'

Curtis also spoke about continuing to learn about her daughter's experience and never thinking she knows everything there is to know.

"Most importantly, I am trying to learn that I don't know everything.

"Every day I wake up sober and I say, 'I don't know everything. There is so much I don't know. There is so much I don't know. And there is so much I have to learn.'"

In 2021, Curtis and his guest gave a joint interview to People about their guest's journey to coming out, and the "Freaky Friday" star expressed similar sentiments at the time.

"It's about speaking a new language. 'Learning new terms, new words. I'm new at it. I'm not one to pretend I know a lot about it. And I make mistakes, I make mistakes. I don't want to make any big mistakes."
