Why Balmoral is especially important to Prince William, Princess Kate and their children

Prince William has spent summers at Balmoral since he was a child and has many fond memories of this royal Scottish estate.

But equally, it is where he was when he learned of the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and where Queen Elizabeth II took her last breath last September.

This year will be the first time King Charles and Queen Camilla will entertain the family at Balmoral, and it is expected that Prince William and Princess Kate will be among the invited guests.

"William has both happy and sad things to say about Balmoral. But it is about his life experiences, not about the place," said royal author Robert Jobson, OK!

"The place has always been special to him. Even in his darkest moments, such as when he learned of his mother's death, Balmoral gave him the opportunity to grieve privately or to go for a walk with his grandfather and try to come to terms with what had happened."

In addition, Balmoral's seclusion is a huge bonus for the Welsh couple and their children, George, Charlotte, and Louis.

"It's a place where young people can get out and play freely. That's important to William and Kate, because they know their children can be free and away from the media," Jobson added.

For professionals, the King and Queen will be mindful this year to make Balmoral a special and welcoming place for families.

"Charles and Camilla will want to make it as fun for all the young people as it has always been. This year there will be a little less "standing for ceremony."

May it be a happy summer for them.
