Princess Kate's favorite food is not only delicious but also surprisingly affordable

We often have the good fortune to hear the Princess of Wales run her mouth about her personal life and share details about herself that we all want to know but few reporters actually ask (for example, her favorite color is green, which she revealed at a recent royal engagement and and showed it off to the world in three looks at Wimbledon last month).

Over the years, Kate has spoken of her love of a certain food, which, according to the Mirror, is not only delicious but also surprisingly affordable. Kate has revealed that she loves curry, even admitting that it is her favorite food to have delivered. On a recent trip to Birmingham, Kate said she "loves curry and spice," but admitted that her husband, Prince William, prefers it mild and said, "I'm a masala person." During a visit to Birmingham last April, the couple visited a curry house and were naturally asked about curry. William said of his wife that "Lady Catherine can eat it," but that he himself "sweats" when he tries to eat it

.

Apparently Kate's love of curry is so strong that the family of five "secretly try a lot of curry houses around the country," and Kate added that her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, "absolutely" love Indian food.

The April visit was not the only time Kate divulged her affinity for Indian food; in a BBC interview, when asked what her favorite take-away was, she replied, "Curry, definitely."

William and Kate attempted to cook Indian food at the royal engagement, but William admitted of the experience, "Oh, it didn't work." [Meena Sharma said of her visit to the Benetts Hill restaurant, "It's clear that Sir [William] has no [skills] at all. There were holes, some too thin." There were holes, and some were too thin. But his wife (Kate) had great skill. I told her, 'You got the job of a lifetime.'" If the queen thing didn't work out....

The good news about curry is that it is relatively inexpensive to make at home. This "cheap, healthy, and delicious" recipe for creamy chicken curry can be made for less than 10 pounds, and serves four people, coming in at just 2.5 pounds per person, the Daily Express reports.

"This cheap creamy chicken curry is delicate and lovely, not cheesy. The blend of spices is perfect, with just the right amount of punch, and the use of coconut milk is really clever, giving the dish a wonderful richness and complexity."

If you want to eat like Kate tonight, try this:

- 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper

- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric

- 1 pound boneless chicken breast, cut into 1-inch pieces

- 1 1/2 teaspoons tomato paste

- 1 cup coconut 1 cup milk

- 2 teaspoons kosher salt

- 1 cup hot water (optional)

Directions

- Place oil in a wok over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 6-8 minutes until transparent. Add garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.

- Add cumin, turmeric, 1 tsp. curry powder, red pepper and 1 tsp. salt. cook for 1 minute. Add tomato paste. Stir to combine.

- Place remaining curry powder in a ziplock and stir in chicken. Season with salt and pepper. Place in wok and cook for 5-6 minutes until golden brown on the outside. [Pour the coconut milk into the wok. If the coconut milk has separated from the fat, pour in the liquid and add a tablespoon or so of fat until the desired creamy consistency is reached. Simmer uncovered for 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until chicken is cooked through. Add more hot water if the liquid becomes too thick.

- Serve hot with white rice, if desired. Sprinkle with cilantro and a squeeze of lime, if desired.

Bon appetit.
