Princess Kate raises her three children "in a radically new way."

Princess Kate is a mother before she is a princess. In addition to Prince George, she is raising Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis with her husband Prince William; the Daily Express reports that Kate has adopted a "radical new way" of parenting. How?

Royal biographer Tom Quinn says Kate is "sticking to her roots" in raising her three children. Kate's own parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, also raised three children themselves. Beyond the palace walls (or rather, the walls of Adelaide Cottage, where the Welsh family of five live), Kate is respectfully modifying tradition a bit, Quinn says. Speaking to The Daily Beast, Quinn said that part of this new way of proceeding includes having William participate in parenting in a way that previous heirs have not.

"I'm told that Kate is good at not only embracing the way the system works, but also modifying it a little subversively," he said. [Kate] insisted that William be involved in bedtime, reading and bathing, and shared in school-age childcare."

Royal commentator Daniela Elser contributed to news.com.au that this was Kate's "starting point" and that William had "already done more parenting than all the ascetic and emotionally stunted heirs of centuries before him combined."

In addition, Elser wrote that the Welsh family "is not being cared for by a small staff." For example, Adelaide Cottage has only four bedrooms and is not as spacious as Buckingham Palace, where Prince Charles grew up.

The Daily Beast's Tom Sykes also reported that, according to royal sources, "the children and William are expected to do the usual household chores, such as emptying the dishwasher and cleaning up around the house." Sykes added, "We have not hired a full-time housekeeper specifically because Kate wants the children to experience as much normal life as possible."

Kate's own "middle-class upbringing" is the "blueprint" for her wishes, Sykes said.
