The movie "Barbie," which almost included a joke about how much Margot Robbie and Emma McKee look alike.

The Barbie movie seems to be on board with the longstanding joke about the uncanny resemblance between actress Margot Robbie (who plays the title character in the film) and Emma McKee (who plays physicist Barbie). Since then, Robbie and McKee, considered doppelgangers, have been closely linked.

In "Barbie," the two look-alikes became co-stars, and the joke about their similar looks was so profound that parts of it almost made it into the film's script. For years, I've been told I look like Emma McKee from Sex Education," Robbie said in a recent interview with Buzzfeed, alongside co-star Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken (there's even a puppy in the interview). Robbie even suggested that one of the reasons McKee was cast in the film was because Robbie and the film's director, Greta Gerwig, thought it would be "funny" if he mentioned that the two were continually compared on screen.

"We were going to make a joke about how similar we are. But when I dressed up as Barbie, she said, 'We don't look that much alike.' She has brown hair and I'm blonde, so we didn't put that joke in the movie."

McKee also called the look-alike theory "funny" in an interview with Total Film and talked about how the topic affected the dynamics on set during the filming of Barbie. 'In real life it's just a joke. It's like, 'We don't look alike at all. I don't care. It's Margot Robbie. She's great. I respect her a lot. I don't mind the comparison. But I hope I can get over it."

Robbie also embraces the frequent comparisons, telling Buzzfeed, "When people come up to me and say, I loved you in 'Sex Education,' I just say, 'Thank you. I just say, 'Thank you so much.'"
