While their decision to divorce may come as a shock to the public, People reports that the two have been estranged for some time and have a different focus in life. A source close to Vergara told the magazine, "They have been growing apart for some time and have been trying to work things out, but are focusing on different areas of their lives."

The source described their marriage as "a passionate, all-encompassing romance that kept the flame burning hot for quite some time." I have never seen two people so in love, so passionate, and so happy. They were always laughing, lovey-dovey, and truly happy. There was a magical glow over their heads; they were both real people, down to earth."[5

So what went wrong?" Sources close to Vergara said that their flame simply faded with the years. The second source said that the so-called "small differences" were what ultimately led to the breakup of their marriage, saying, "They had differences about how to move forward in life, and that caused stress. Vergara and Manganiello met in 2014 at a White House Correspondents' Association dinner through Vergara's "Modern Family" co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
