Prince Louis understands his mission at today's "Trooping the Colour"

It wouldn't be a modern-day Royal Family event without Prince Louis being the star of the show. From the balcony of Buckingham Palace, Prince Louis saluted the crowd gathered here

as he and his family watched some 70 aircraft, including the Red Arrows, fly overhead.

In addition to saluting the dearly departed, Louis, as always, enjoyed the day's events with a variety of expressions and emotions on his face. Trooping the Colors is the King's birthday celebration that takes place every June. (The King's actual birthday is in November; his mother, Queen Elizabeth, was born in April.)

Louis wore a red tie, mimicking his brother Prince George (Louis also matched his red shorts), and his sister Princess Charlotte continued the red theme with a white dress with a hint of red. Her sister, Princess Charlotte, rode in the carriage procession for the second year in a row, wearing a white dress with a hint of red.

Louis held his nose during today's carriage procession. George also sneezed loudly while riding his horse. Perhaps he is allergic to horses like his mother, Princess Wales. In addition to the King and Queen and the Welsh couple, only Prince Edward, Duchess Sophie, Princess Anne and her husband Timothy Lawrence were present. (The Duke and Duchess of Kent and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were flanked by the Duke and Duchess of Kent.) In contrast to the packed balconies of yesteryear, this year's group was one of the smallest in recent memory.

Of Prince Charles' three brothers, only Prince Andrew was absent, as he is no longer an active royal. Prince Charles' second son, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, were not in attendance and were reportedly not invited, as reported by Marie Claire last week.
