Princess Kate spends a casual moment with Paul McCartney

Princess Kate attended the reopening this morning in London of the National Portrait Gallery, which has been closed for renovation for the past three years.

As patron of the museum, the Princess of Wales got a commemorative plaque to mark her attendance at the reopening.

So Kate was of course the guest of honor and was able to meet some of the most important people who were present for the event. She spoke with project architect Jamie Faubert and the very famous visual artist Tracey Emin.

But even more prestigious, the princess was able to speak with the real Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney, who was in the gallery with his wife, Nancy Shevell. [Royal reporter Rebecca English released a video and photo on Twitter of the two shaking hands with the princess and having a long chat, though she is not sure what they talked about.

For the occasion, the princess chose a beautiful dress from a brand that might be a bit on the nose: a self-portrait. Obviously, even if Kate thought it was a cutesy nod to the museum's name, the brand is actually one of her favorites, so it's not an odd choice or anything.

She chose a cream-colored, embellished, belted midi dress from this brand.

The exact royal dress is sold out, but you can buy similar styles from the brand on Net-a-Porter.

Kate finished off her look with her favorite bow-embellished Aquazzura heeled pumps in black, drop pearl earrings, and a black Chanel clutch bag. Her hair was worn down and side-parted (a millennial staple) and lightly wavy. It's quintessential Kate.
