Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to give up their Sussex title and take Princess Diana's last name, Spencer, a royal writer claims.

"What's really interesting about the Sussex name change is that Princess Meghan decided that her real purpose in life was to be Princess Diana," royal author Tom Bower told GB News. 'That was her passion. It was Harry's passion, too, so much so that he suggested that Meghan should drop the name Windsor and take the surname Spencer. That way she would be Megan Spencer, or the new Diana."

Bower told moderator Dan Wootton that the topic had already been discussed with others and that he believed Harry was on board with taking his mother's last name.

"They have discussed it not only with themselves but with others. 'They have discussed it not only with themselves, but with others as well. They were actively trying to be Harry and Meghan. They would also take their mother's name. It's all about disconnection."

This "bid to align themselves with Princess Diana" would include dropping the Sussex title, Bower said. Harry and Meghan were given the title of Duke and Duchess of Sussex by Her late Majesty upon their marriage in 2018. Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, originally used the surname Mountbatten-Windsor, but on the official line of succession, they too adopted the title of Baron of Sussex, becoming Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex.

"Instead, they will also give up the title of Sussex, since they have a new reincarnation of Princess Diana," Bower said.
