Prince Charles and the late Crown Prince Harry stopped answering Prince Harry's phone calls after the Sussex step back, royal writers claim.

The relationship between Prince Harry and his father, Prince Charles, has long been strained. However, there always appears to have been a loving bond between Harry and his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.

In his latest book, Our King, veteran royal correspondent Robert Jobson writes, "After Prince Harry moved to California, both the late Queen Elizabeth and King Charles stopped taking calls from Prince Harry."

Harry and his wife Meghan Markle retired from active membership in the royal family in January 2020. By then, they had already moved to North America, first to Canada, but eventually settled in Meghan's native California, where they now live in Montecito and raise their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

But even after the infamous step back and move across the pond, Harry remained closely connected to the queen. Jobson writes that Harry called his grandmother regularly. 'Eventually, [the late Queen] asked him to speak directly with his father instead.'

As Marie Claire reported today, "Her Majesty the Queen found Prince Harry's phone calls rather difficult and tiresome," Jobson wrote. She did not want to interfere in the parent-child relationship, so she urged Harry to talk to his father."

Eventually, Harry called Charles, which allegedly resulted in the Duke of Sussex cursing his father, and Charles eventually "stopped answering Harry's phone after his son swore at him and repeatedly asked for funds," Jobson wrote. When the Queen asked Charles why he would not comply, Charles replied that he was "not a bank.

Jobson writes that the late Queen felt "let down" by Harry's decision to step down from royal business and saw the departure of the Sussex family as a "missed opportunity." Nevertheless, Jobson writes that the queen hoped that her "grandchildren would find peace and happiness."

Jobson also writes in Our King that royal aides allegedly believed that Harry had Stockholm Syndrome (a victim's empathy for his captors) and described him as "Princess Meghan's hostage" behind the couple's back. (There was a time when those involved joked that Harry was a victim of Stockholm Syndrome and Meghan's hostage, but now most people just feel that Harry has turned his back on everything he knows," Jobson wrote.

"Our King" will be released on Thursday.
