Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not attend coronation, coronation plans "in shambles," report says

King Charles' coronation plans are apparently not going well.

For one thing, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have yet to confirm whether they will attend the event. They reportedly even missed the April 3 RSVP deadline.

According to sources who spoke to the Mirror, this means that the seating plan for the event cannot be confirmed at this stage.

But that is not the only stumbling block now.

"Everything is very frantic and, to put it bluntly, completely chaotic," said one official who is not particularly fond of drama.

"There is a plan that is supposed to be a blueprint for how the day should run, but things are changing on a daily basis, and it is causing massive headaches."

Other sources confirmed that plans were tight, but were confident that everything would be in place by the time May 6 rolled around.

"I can say that it will be pretty last minute, but we have great confidence that everything will go according to plan on that day," one source said.

"This is obviously a big event, and the important point is that everyone is pulling in the right direction.

"The King and Queen want it to be perfect, as does everyone involved.

There are also concerns about the growing republicanism in the UK and how this might affect the direct turnout of royal supporters and television ratings.

"Everything should be planned by the minute, and such overruns would be a disaster," said one official. [If the service is too long or too complicated, TV viewers will drift away, which could be devastating.

"[We] want to create solemnity, and Charles and Camilla have seen months of protests by the growing republican movement.

The Mirror reported that the King and Queen have had eggs thrown at them during public appearances, but Buckingham Palace has denied at least one of those incidents.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed in early March that they had received an invitation, but declined to say whether they would attend. Relations with other royal families have steadily declined since their departure from the UK in early 2020.

Their reception at the Queen's Jubilee last year was not the warmest, so it is easy to understand their reluctance to attend the coronation. However, their non-response does not appear to be outright rejection, so we will have to wait and see where things go from here.
