Princess Kate "trained for decades" before joining the royal family, historian says

Princess Kate and Meghan Markle have taken very different paths since joining the royal family, but for one royal expert, this was to be expected given their opposite upbringings.

"Princess Meghan is from Hollywood, and her father was a reasonably successful lighting director," said historian Tessa Dunlop, OK!

"But the environment is completely different. In Hollywood, to get that role, to get that job, to get a better reputation than the next person, to climb above the others, that's the ambition."

For the Duchess of Sussex, Dunlop says, going from this environment to the demands of the royal family would not have been easy. One of the main reasons Princess Kate seems better suited for a senior position in the royal family these days is that Kate was born in Berkshire and thus grew up in a very different environment than Meghan.

"Kate's values are paradoxical: respect, assertiveness at the right level within the system, not rocking the boat, making a difference by mostly embracing the system, while Meghan is the opposite, they are like complete opposite versions of each other," Dunlop added.

For experts, the two women's backgrounds explain in part why Kate was able to integrate more seamlessly into the family and why Megan felt more comfortable leaving.

"I think part of the problem is that we think, 'Oh, you married for love and for the royal family.' [But she's had decades of training and I don't think we take that into account enough.

Sadly, while royal fans initially hoped that Kate and Meghan would become fast friends, it turns out that the two women were not on good terms from the start.

A prominent example is the argument over who made whom cry before the Sussexes' wedding and Prince Harry's claim that Kate was offended by Meghan's "baby brain" remark. We don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but it is hard to imagine that Kate and Meghan are on speaking terms these days.
