Prince Louis makes his Royal Easter debut

This morning marked a royal first for Prince Louis. The soon-to-be 5-year-old Prince Louis (his birthday is April 23) finally made his Easter service debut with the rest of his family. Holding his mother's hand, Prince Louis entered the church at St. George's Chapel in Windsor with his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and older siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte. (According to People, George and Charlotte made their Easter debut just last year.)

And like last year, the Welsh (then Cambridges) were dressed in blue. Louis wore blue shorts and knee socks, and his blazer and tie were bicycle-patterned. According to People magazine, it is common for upper class British boys to wear shorts when they are young and then switch to suits. Kate wore a blue Catherine Walker coat. As is the new tradition these days, the King and Queen also wore blue, which seems to be the new fashionable color for the royal family.

Louis held his mother's hand, Charlotte held her father's, and George walked in front; the Mirror captured the adorable moment when Charlotte looked over at Louis, saw her brother's trademark adorable expression (platinum-jubilee cuteness), and smiled dotingly. According to body language expert Judy James, Kate looked confident and proud of Louis, the Mirror reported.

"The warm applause for Kate and Louis came in sudden ripples. 'Perhaps many fans were eager to remember his playfulness at the Jubilee and to admire his much more serious and well-mannered deportment here,' said James. As he walked away, confidently gazing at his fans, Kate glanced down at her son, then looked up with a proud smile."

Marie Claire magazine recently reported that Louis would attend the coronation, but Page Six reported that he might be absent because of his past antics at the Jubilee. If Easter was a trial run for the coronation, Louis seems to have passed with flying colors. (We hope to see Louis again within a month at the May 6 ceremony. Page Six" reports that it will be a little while before William and Kate make an announcement about Louis.)

Kate herself had a fashion moment you may have missed-wearing a standby designer she is devoted to-but the Daily Express noted that she broke with tradition and wore a crimson nail polish to today's service. (Queen Elizabeth II preferred a neutral or pale manicure, and many women in the royal family followed suit to show their respect.)

Not only is this the first Easter since the Queen's death last September, but April 9 is also the second anniversary of Prince Philip's death and the 18th wedding anniversary of Prince Charles and Camilla.
