On Monday, the Duke of Sussex unexpectedly appeared in the High Court on the first day of a four-day hearing in his joint lawsuit against Associated Newspapers (ANL), publisher of the Daily Mail.
Then on Tuesday, the Crown appeared again, this time in court to question witnesses.
"In his witness statement, Prince Harry said, 'If the most influential newspapers can successfully evade justice, the whole country is doomed in my opinion,'" royal correspondent Victoria Ward reported on Twitter.
"He says he is filing a lawsuit against ANL 'out of love for my country and deep concern for Associated's unchecked power, influence, and criminality.'"
"Harry says his lawyer withheld information from him and William about the phone hacking at NoTW."[
"'The agency has made it clear that we don't need to know anything about the hacking,' he said."
The Duke, along with a group of luminaries from various walks of life, including Elton John, Sadie Frost, and Elizabeth Hurley, sued the ANL.
The group accused the publisher of "abhorrent criminal conduct and gross invasion of privacy," including allegations of phone tapping and hiring private investigators, all of which the publisher denies.
In one court document filed on Harry's behalf by attorney David Sherburne, the royals claim that they are "distressed that Associated's unlawful conduct has deprived them of most important aspects of their teenage years. In particular, Associated's publication of illegal articles caused suspicion and paranoia. As a result, friends were lost or disowned, and everyone became a 'suspect' because they were misled by the way the articles were written into believing that people close to them had provided information to Associated's newspaper,"
the document continued.
This is the latest of several lawsuits filed by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex against ANL.
