The War of the Windsors After the January 10 release of Prince Harry's memoir, Spare, there were indeed shots fired, and it appears that the retaliatory shots were fired just 24 hours later; as Marie Claire reported today, King Charles' outrage over the book was not only about how he was was not just about how he was portrayed in the book. [Harry and Meghan's December Netflix documentary of the same name added fuel to the fire, which exploded after Charles was informed of the contents of Harry's confessional book. According to the Daily Mail, the process of removing Harry and Meghan from Frogmore in favor of (of all people) Prince Charles' disgraced brother, Prince Andrew, began the day after the book was released, a decision that was "very painful" for the King The decision was "very painful" for the king. (Incidentally, Andrew does not want to move to Frogmore any more than Harry and Meghan want to vacate it.)

"It felt like ripping off a Band-Aid," a source says of the decision to begin the eviction process. 'It's painful, but once it's done, it's done.'

The Daily Mail reports that Prince Charles is "particularly keen to resolve the many remaining knotty issues around Harry, Meghan and Andrew before the coronation. (The King's coronation is in two months, on May 6.)

Apparently, Harry and Meghan were originally asked to move out when their lease was up for renewal next month, but were allowed to extend it at least past the coronation.

Notably, a Sussex spokesperson officially acknowledged this week that the couple had been "asked to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage." The paper also reports that there has been a "flurry of correspondence" between the Sussex team and the Palace in recent weeks, and that the "stunned" couple has already moved their ottomans, chaise longues, and other furniture to their California home. The Daily Mail adds that Harry and Meghan feel the eviction is "cruel."

The five-bedroom Frogmore Cottage in Windsor was a gift to Harry and Meghan from His late Majesty the King in 2018, but the couple only lived there for six months before moving to Canada and later the United States amid extensive renovations. The Sussexes retained the residence so that they would "always have a place to call home in England," even when they were abroad. The original plan was to return frequently and make Frogmore their home base in the U.K., but the couple's visits have been low-key due to their strained relationship over the past three years. After the Sussexes left England, they rented their home to Harry's cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.

"It all feels like final, cruel punishment," a source tells reporter Omid Scobie, who has long been known for his close relationship with Harry and Meghan. It seems [the family] wants to separate them from the picture permanently." Harry and Meghan must move out by early summer. Initially they were only given a few weeks, but now they have at least until after the coronation." Scobie also noted that at least two members of the royal family - presumably Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice - are "appalled."

When news of the eviction broke, Harry and Meghan were seen happily going on a date in California. A source says, "This will mark the end of Harry and Meghan's life in England. Andrew has resisted the proposed move to Frogmore Cottage in the past week. But Harry and Meghan have shown they have no power to stop the eviction."
