Official Announcement: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Invited to Coronation

After weeks of speculation in the weeks following the release of "Spare," multiple media outlets have confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been invited to King Charles' coronation on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London. It is still unclear whether Harry and Meghan will accept the invitation, but it is a complicated decision given the recent family rift (which led to the couple being evicted from their home Frogmore Cottage in England) and the fact that May 6 is also their son Archie's fourth birthday.

"People" reports that a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said the two "recently received an email exchange" about the coronation. The Sunday Times (opens in new tab) published the full statement, saying, "I can confirm that the Duke has recently received email correspondence from Her Majesty's office regarding the coronation. No immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend can be made public by us at this time."

The statement also said that the Duke and Duchess "will not be attending the coronation.

It is a bit of levity amidst a turbulent few months. Harry and Meghan's eponymous six-part Netflix documentary was released in December, Harry's memoir, Spare, was released in January, and the decision to evict the couple from Frogmore was made the day after that.

According to People, Prince Charles is eager for the situation to "settle down" in time for the coronation of the oldest monarch in British history, at 74. His wife Camilla will also be crowned alongside the king.

"This is such a momentous occasion for Charles that he wants his son to attend and witness the coronation," a source close to the royal family told People. 'He wants to bring Harry back into the family. If it is not resolved, it will always be part of the King's reign and how he has torn the family apart. He has a reputation of being an aloof parent, and it would be terrible for him to have that continue."
