Royal Historian Claims Royal Family's Absence from Princess Lilibet's Christening Was Not a "Snub"

The christening of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter Lilibet (that's Princess Lilibet to you) took place last Friday in Los Angeles. Despite the fact that senior members of the royal family were invited, they ended up not attending.

People are quick to assume that this was a deliberate choice on the part of the royal family to show that they do not approve of the Sussex family's recent choices. But for royal historian Mok O'Keefe (aka @gayaristo), the explanation is probably simpler.

"I think people are reading too much into the fact that the Royal Family missed the christening of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's daughter, Lilibet, last week," O'Keefe tells Marie Claire.

"The royal diary is planned more than a year in advance, in order to fulfill official functions and to support the vast number of charitable organizations that visit each year. And then there is the small matter of planning for the coronation."

For this reason, O'Keefe does not believe that the King and Queen were trying to be mean.

"I think this is just a clash of diaries, never mean-spiritedness," says O'Keefe.

"As we saw in the Netflix documentary, Mr. and Mrs. Sussex are great friends with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and apparently did not attend the christening. We know that the Sussexes value their privacy, and this is reflected in the way they chose to have their daughter's christening"

.

Still, Prince Charles reportedly decided to evict Prince Harry and Meghan Markle the day after Harry's memoir, Spare, was published, and they are not on the best terms to attend the most important event in each other's lives. The coronation is shaping up to be an interesting one.
