Malala Yousafzai at the Academy Awards in Ralph Lauren sequins
Tonight, women's rights advocate Malala Yousafzai made an appearance on the red carpet at the 2023 Academy Awards in a custom gown by Ralph Lauren. The dress, an integrated train and hijab, was composed of silver sequins, perfectly balancing recent Fashion Week trends with timeless colors and silhouettes. She then finished the look with an emerald flower ring by Santi Jewels, featuring four 17th-century emeralds surrounded by portrait-cut diamonds.
Yousafzai celebrated the Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Short for Stranger at the Gate, which she executive produced. She is no stranger to the film world, having appeared in the 2015 documentary "I am Malala," but this is her first time attending Hollywood's biggest night. In fact, Yousafzai just launched her own production company, Extracurricular Productions, last year and plans to release content in line with her empowerment work in politics and social justice.
"I'm really excited to work with women and young people to reflect the world as they see it," she told ABC.
"So I'm bringing in all kinds of things: comedies, documentaries, TV shows, movies, you name it. So we're going to bring everything: comedies, documentaries, TV shows, movies. And it has the power to connect people all over the world. We have no doubt at all that Ms. Yousafzai is already a role model for people around the world and will continue to inspire people more broadly with her perspective and commitment to feminism, equality, and social justice.
And there was another big takeaway from tonight's champagne carpet appearance:' Star is most excited to see Rihanna's groundbreaking performance and to find Elvis star Austin Butler.
