Olivia Wilde on the Red Carpet at the 2023 Academy Awards
Tonight, Olivia Wilde showed off a bold and stunning look by designer Gabriella Hearst. The dress she wore to Vanity Fair's Oscar party was made of ivory silk wool in a smooth, pearly hue. The single-sleeved, below-the-bust look was offset by a hand-painted, structured black bra from the designer's Fall/Winter 2023 collection.
The striking ensemble fits perfectly with the white fashion trend sweeping the champagne carpet at this year's Academy Awards, and even matches the black and white dress and hot pants combination that Wilde's former colleague Florence Pugh wore tonight.
What I like about Wilde's look, however, is the goddess-like silhouette, reminiscent of neoclassical Greek and Roman statuary. In fact, the dress is even called the "Midas" dress, after the legend of King Midas.
A fitting name for a majestic dress that is reminiscent of the classics, but with a sharp, modern edge. I'm looking for opportunities to wear this look in the coming seasons as we transition from spring to summer.
