Lady Gaga performs "Hold My Hand" completely barefaced.
We love to wear makeup (eyelashes, bold lips, colorful eyeliner - we all adore the look), but there is something so powerful and uplifting when a woman is bare-faced. It's special, expressionless, and in the most important sense, vulnerable.
At tonight's Oscars, Lady Gaga went makeup-free while performing "Hold My Hand" from Top Gun, our favorite beauty: "Hold My Hand" from Maverick. While singing, she paired her bare face with a T-shirt, torn jeans, long French braids, and Converse sneakers.
"I wrote this song with my friend Brad Popp for the movie Top Gun: I wrote this song with my friend Brad Popp in the basement of my studio. This song is very personal to me and I think we all need each other." We need a lot of love to go through this life and sometimes we need heroes. We have heroes all around us in casual places.
Lady Gaga may have launched a makeup company, House Lab, but she is no stranger to the no-makeup look. Last month, Gaga posted a gorgeous makeup-free selfie in appreciation of her Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song; in 2020, Gaga dropped a bare-faced selfie paired with pink hair, and in 2019, when she was nominated for three Grammy Awards, she Instagrammed Story, she shared a makeup-free photo with friends.
The casual look was very different from the black Versace gown, Lashify lashes, and smoky eyeliner she pulled on the "champagne" carpet a few hours earlier. We honestly love both looks, but if we had to choose (please don't make us choose!) ), we'd pick the one that makes Gaga feel the most authentically beautiful herself.
