Prince Charles Makes "Big Mistake" in Evicting Harry & Meghan: "Optically Awful," Royal Expert Says

King Charles surprised royal followers by removing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from Frogmore Cottage at Windsor Manor.

And while some of Sussex's detractors agree with the move, one royal expert and historian thinks it was a terrible idea in terms of keeping up appearances.

"The British reaction to the news has been generally jubilant. On one level, the outrage is understandable," Dr. Tessa Dunlop commented in the Mirror. [Prince Harry had just thrown a number of grenades at his own family and the old institution he was a part of. But he did so from a position of vulnerability, from the outside, feeling the pain, feeling the lopsidedness."

Here Dr. Dunlop is referring to reports that Prince Charles was evicted in the aftermath of the release of Spare, Harry's shocking memoir in which he made many damning revelations against his family.

"A broad-shouldered, confident monarchy would have weathered the storm. With the coronation approaching, the king has bigger fish to fry," the expert observed. [Instead, King Charles is going directly against the conciliatory style of His late Majesty by evicting the couple from Frogmore Cottage, a generous gift from the Queen."

"Worse, he has conflated the Sussex couple's problems with Prince Andrew's, asking Prince Andrew to give up his larger home, the Royal Lodge, and move to Frogmore Cottage. It's a big mistake. The optics are terrible."

Dr. Dunlop believes all this drama will hurt the monarchy's reputation abroad and claims that we will no longer see the Sussexes at the May 6 coronation.

According to royal writer Omid Scobie, the king "evicted" the youngest family from Frogmore even though the Sussexes had paid enough rent for the "foreseeable future."

The move would have exposed the U.S.-based royal family to security risks if they were to visit the U.K., as they would no longer have the additional police protection afforded by their stay at the Windsor Estate.

What a mess we are in, what a mess...
