Rihanna pays tribute to friend Andre Leon Talley with Super Bowl red coat
Rihanna's Super Bowl halftime show performance was historic in many ways.
Not only did she announce her second pregnancy during her set, but the giant coat she wore for part of the show had beautiful significance.
Although Rihanna herself did not say, the full-length red Alaia puffer she wore looked like a tribute to the famous similar coat worn by her late friend Andre Leon Talley.
Tully, a prominent fashion editor who sadly passed away in January 2022, was often seen wearing Norma Kamali's red sleeping bag coat, which became associated with him.
Tully's official Instagram page showed images of him and Rihanna wearing similar red coats side by side, and wrote, "'When the sun shines, we shine together. I told you we'd always be here... You said we'll always be friends." @badgalriri"
Reality star Patricia Altschul said, "He will be missed by many who loved him... Rihanna's tribute brought tears to my eyes."
Stylist June Ambrose said, "It was a beautiful tribute."
Screenwriter Mara Brock Akil said, "I knew it! And I loved it so much! I love that she met Andre in the sky like a diamond!"
.
The Vogue alumna and Fenty Beauty founder are great friends, and in footage from the 2015 Met Gala, Tully admired Lili's stunning faux fur-lined dress with a gorgeous embroidered train, handmade by Guo Pei She was.
"You are an inspiration to so many," Tully told her then. 'You are going to inspire people here.'
