Adele and Ed Sheeran decline King Charles' invitation to attend the coronation.
When King Charles began planning the concerts that would mark his coronation (May 6) and the festive weekend of the following May 7, he apparently had two singers at the top of his must-see list: Adele and Ed Sheeran. According to the organizers of the event, "The King had suggested several people he wanted to perform, and Adele and Ed were on that list. The King was very keen for them to attend the concert."
According to OK, the two declined the invitation to the concert. Sheeran offers a plausible explanation: he was scheduled to perform in Texas the day before the coronation concert, and it would be difficult for him to do the entire concert. But Adele "declined the invitation without explanation," not only because her schedule doesn't allow for May 7, but also because she has no plans to perform publicly after March 25.
"A team was assembled to get the talent signed, and they approached the two men, but received a response that they were unavailable. 'They are giants of the showbiz industry, typically British and known all over the world. It is a great shame."
The lineup for the Coronation concert has not been confirmed as of today, but OK reports that Lionel Richie and the Spice Girls are likely to perform, and rumors are flying that Harry Styles may also take the stage.
And as for who is coming and who is not, several media outlets report that there has yet to be a reply from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. According to the Daily Mail, the two are still undecided, with Harry hoping to meet with his father and brother, Prince William, before leaving the U.S. for the event. The deadline for replies is apparently not until early April, which means the Sussexes have six weeks to make up their minds.
