Blog posts attacking Meghan Markle "Princess Kate" and the Royal Wedding resurface.
Before becoming the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was an actress and blogger. She was the brain behind The Tig, a popular lifestyle blog covering fashion, beauty, food, and travel (and named after her favorite Italian wine.) Before marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan shut down her blog, but The Tig has resurfaced, generating ample buzz and ample controversy.
According to Page Six, this particular post from 2014 focuses on Meghan's feelings about the princess and the royal wedding, proving that she not only knew the royal family, but had strong opinions about them. Even at her engagement press conference with Harry in 2017, three years after this blog was published, Meghan was caught off guard, saying repeatedly that she "didn't know much" about Harry or the royal family until she met Harry in 2016.
According to The Daily Mail, in this resurfaced blog, Meghan writes that she is tired of hearing "endless conversations" about Prince William and "Princess Kate's" royal wedding. Princess Meghan also wrote that unlike most girls who "dream of being a princess," she was instead focused on "She-Ra, Princess of Power."
"For those unfamiliar with the 80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is He-Man's twin sister, a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength," Princess Meghan wrote. 'We are not talking about Cinderella here.'
She goes on to say that many adult women seem to hold on to this childish dream of becoming a princess, "Adult women seem to hold on to this childhood fantasy. You only have to look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and the endless conversations about Princess Kate to see that."
The royal wedding between Prince William and then-Kate Middleton took place in 2011, three years before this blog post. And if we really want to get technical, Kate was still a duchess in 2014. Although her marriage to the Prince made her a princess since 2011, Kate was Duchess of Cambridge from her wedding day until September 9, 2022, when the new King Charles appointed her Princess of Wales alongside William, Prince of Wales.
According to Page Six, "Sadly, the snide comments about 'Princess Kate' never blossomed, as seems to be the case with the cold relationship between sisters-in-law."
