Kristen Bell on why she talks to her kids about drugs and sex: she hates the word "taboo"
Kristen Bell is a modern day hero.
Not only has she had an amazing acting career (if you ask me, her best roles have always been Veronica Mars, but I can also appreciate her moments in "Anna and the Snow Queen" and "The Good Place" - I am not a monster), but Bell is known for being incredibly open and vulnerable. As evidence, she once spoke about mental health care in Marie Claire magazine.
She has also opened up several times about being extra honest with her children, including teaching them accountability by apologizing for her mistakes.
The actress was just named one of Real Simple's Game Changers, and she explained to the magazine that no topic is off limits when it comes to discussions in the home.
"I hate the word 'taboo. I think it should be removed from the dictionary," she said (via People). 'No topic should be off the table that people talk about.'
Bell and her husband, Dax Shepard, are the parents of daughters Lincoln, 9, and Delta, 8.
"It's shocking," she continued, "but I tell my kids about the drugs, the fact that their father is a recovering addict, and I tell them about sex. It's all "hard topics" that don't have to be if you give the other side your vulnerability and a little credit."
On the topic of apologizing for one's mistakes, she said, "Amends and apologies are important to our family. I really respect it when someone does something wrong or hurtful and they apologize. It's like, 'Yeah, that's right. That's important.'"
For this, he sends Bell emojis of fire around the world.
