Anne Hathaway says she is "thrilled" to see fans' enthusiasm for "The Princess Diaries 3".
If Anne "had her way," "The Princess Diaries 3" would happen much sooner.
It was reported in November that a sequel to the cult teen movie was indeed in the works, but at that time it was not confirmed that Anne Hathaway, the lead actress, had signed on to star. However, a source told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that "if the possibility of a new film moves forward beyond the script stage, we hope she'll be back."
The film's director, Anne Hathaway, has been working on the film for several years.
Now it seems certain that Hathaway will indeed return (besides, she has been super open about her involvement in the film in the past).
At the Sundance Film Festival, Hathaway told People, "It's thrilling to see the level of excitement [for the sequel]."
She continued, "We feel exactly the same way, and I know it's probably very frustrating. It's a process that requires patience and everyone should consider themselves part of the movie business now.
If you recall, the final film in the series, "The Princess Diaries 2," was released in 2004.
The actress is at Sundance to promote her period psycho-thriller "Eileen," and during a Q&A session, Hathaway said of the film, "I thought it was an extraordinary film. I felt Will [Oldroyd] was a filmmaker I could trust to tell a complex story, especially one about women" (via Variety).
Also, incredibly, Hathaway wore a literal puffer coat on the red carpet, but still looked wild and glamorous. Eventually she took it off to reveal a stunning little black dress by Versace, though. But still, how does she do it?
