Prince Harry should have been Prince William's "wingman" but instead became a "hitman," royal expert says

ICYMI, tensions are now running high between Prince William and Prince Harry.

In his memoir, Spare, the Duke of Sussex spends much of his time venting his frustration with his brother, the "heir apparent" of Spare, about the rivalry the two have had all their lives.

The Prince of Wales is believed to be very upset by it all, although he has not given a formal response to what was published in his brother's book.

For some royal experts, the brother's late mother could have prevented things from getting so bad.

"Princess Diana would have been appalled at how things turned out," royal correspondent Charles Lai told Marie Claire on behalf of Spin Ginny.

"But it is highly doubtful that she would have allowed things to become so acrimonious had she lived, especially between her sons. She always made sure that her two sons were treated fairly"

.

"She never allowed the other members of the family to favor William, the heir, to the detriment of Spare. From an early age, Harry knew that he would never be king, but Diana hoped that Harry would be in a special position to support his brother when he became king.

"Unfortunately, however, Harry, who should have been William's wingman, became William's hitman."

Given that Harry himself describes his brother as his "nemesis," it sounds about right.

For Rae, this whole situation must be incredibly painful for Prince William.

"I think it was and still is very difficult for Prince William in particular to speak out, not only about the particular accusations against the Prince of Wales, but also because of the fact that Prince William and Prince Harry were so close," Rae says.

"I think William feels very betrayed by his brother, and he may feel the same way, that his brother betrayed him."

Not good. Not good at all.
