Princess of Wales breaks Queen's "Golden Rule" to reveal private details.
The Queen was warm, friendly, and gracious. One personal detail she never revealed was her favorite food: according to Gordon Rayner, former royal correspondent for The Telegraph and former royal correspondent for Hello, "As one of the Queen's staff told me, 'If the Queen told you she had a favorite meal, you would never be served anything else. would not be served anything else.'"
That is true. For example, if you knew that Her late Majesty's favorite meal was rotisserie chicken, why would you want to be served anything else in an official setting?" and because of the repetition, it would not soon become her favorite meal.
The royal family has quite a few rules surrounding food, and while the queen never tells us what her favorite dishes are, the crown princess has opened up in the past about not only her favorite dishes, but also how much she enjoys cooking at home with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Kate broke the Queen's golden eating rule in 2018 when she visited Great Ormond Street Hospital, talking to a 4-year-old named Rafael Chana, who was waiting for a heart transplant. Rafael revealed that he likes olives, to which Kate replied, "I ate lots and lots of olives when I was little." Rafael then asked if she liked pasta, to which Kate replied, "Charlotte likes pasta too."
Later, royal reporter Rebecca English wrote on her Twitter page, "The [Princess of Wales] revealed today that her daughter, Princess Charlotte loves olives and she encouraging both her and Prince George to cook with her." she posted. (Depending on the time of year, Louis, born in April 2018, would have been either not yet born or too young to join her in the kitchen.)
That's not the only time Kate opened up about her food preferences. During a visit to Scotland with her husband, Prince William, she revealed her love of curry and spicy foods. When asked if she makes curry at home, Kate replied, "Yes, I love it." William then laughed and said, "She likes a little spice. I'm not much of a spice person," he laughed.
And while the late Queen did not always profess her food preferences, former royal chef Darren McGrady told Hello magazine, "The Queen is a total chocoholic. Chocolate biscuit cake is the only cake that makes it to the royal table every day, and she will eat it until it's gone."
He continued. 'I remember as a young chef traveling from Paddington to Windsor one Friday morning with an uneaten chocolate biscuit cake, neatly and tightly packed in a biscuit tin and wrapped in clingfilm! It was her favorite. And when Prince William tasted it for the first time, he loved it so much that he requested it as his groom's cake."
