Selena Gomez Responds to Body Criticism After Golden Globe Appearance, Heartbreaking
Because the Internet is a hellhole, people decided to body-shame Selena Gomez on the red carpet at the Golden Globes 2023 earlier this week.
Appearing on Instagram Live with her sister Gracie Teefey, Gomez said, "I'm a little big right now because I had fun over the holidays." Turning to Gracie, he added, "I mean... Hey?" To which the little girl replied, "Yeah!" I replied.
The video was re-shared on TikTok, where fans quickly expressed how horrified they were that Gomez felt compelled to mention or explain the change in her body.
"This makes me so sad," someone wrote. Someone else said, "She shouldn't have to explain why her body looks the way it does." Another fan added, "She's perfect and doesn't need to explain."
Needless to say, Gomez looked stunning at the awards ceremony, wearing a stunning Valentino gown with a black velvet body and huge plum-colored puff sleeves. She was nominated for her role in "Only Murderers in the Building," but did not win this time.
The singer, actress, and entrepreneur captured the hearts of onlookers by bringing 9-year-old Gracie to the red carpet to pose for pictures.
This is not the first time Gomez has addressed body image and dealing with demeaning comments.
In April 2022, Gomez appeared on TikTok Stories and said, "I was trying to stay skinny, but I went to Jack in the Box and had four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich.
"But honestly, I don't care what I weigh. Because everyone complains about it anyway. ...... 'Too small,' 'too big,' 'doesn't fit,' you know? Moral of the story' bye-bye!"
Another T.
In another TikTok, Gomez said she wouldn't suck a belly for anyone, which was widely praised by fans.
