Jenna Ortega Completely Ignores Wednesday Core at Golden Globe Awards
I, along with other Netflix subscribers, found myself deeply, deeply, deeply enamored with Wednesday Adams, played by Jenna Ortega. Dance! The makeup! The lack of inflection! We all even championed the Wednesday Core Fashion and Beauty Movement (all black, braids in pigtails, eyeliner pulled back). Ortega has been the leader of this movement, and has been doing press events with her character-inspired ensembles. However, at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday, January 10, actress Ortega decided to stay away from Wednesday, appearing in a 90s-inspired look.
Wearing a blush-colored Gucci dress, the Disney Channel star teamed up with quite the glam group. David Stanwell did the hair and decided to "take a few risks" with Ortega's already refreshed hairstyle. (It's good to have fun and try something new with a tweak here and there," Stanwell said in a Marie Claire press release. 'I didn't want to be too formal, and I wanted to do it with the haircut I had just decided on. I love that the hairstyle makes a statement, sculpting it around her face and playing with shapes that work."
[4To create the piece look, Stanwell set Ortega's freshly blow-dried hair with velcro rollers. Her bangs were sprayed with FEKKAI Clean Stylers Flexi-Hold Hairspray (opens in new tab) for a little extra care. Once the rollers were removed, she used her fingers to add a little tousling. 'I went for an effortless classic 90s style,' she said. 'I lifted the hair behind the fringe a bit and eased the hair back behind the ears to create a relaxed yet chic look.'
Makeup artist Vincent Oquendo handled the makeup, giving Ortega a dramatic Sophia Loren-inspired eye (peek at the dramatic wings and white waterline). The star's nails, created by Thuy Nguyen, were meticulously crafted. Zoom in and you'll see the intricate white wave design.
If this is any indication of what Ortega brings to the red carpet, we can't wait to see her throughout the rest of the awards season.
