The royal tailor has broken her silence on Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle's bridesmaid dress fiasco.
It's been almost five years since Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in May 2018, and the drama between Meghan and her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Wales (then Duchess of Cambridge), over Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dresses in the run-up to the royal wedding Yes, it is still talked about.
But now a new voice has joined in: luxury tailor Ajay Mirpui, speaking to the Daily Mail about the series of events (according to People), sheds light on what happened. The events were pertinent enough to be mentioned in Harry's confessional book, Spare, which was released this week.
From Harry's side of the story, here is what happened: four days before the wedding, Kate texted Meghan, "Charlotte's dress is too big, too long, too blingy. Charlotte's dress is too big, too long, and too blingy. According to the book, Meghan then instructed her to meet with a tailor who was "on standby" at Kensington Palace at 8 a.m., but Kate insisted that "all the dresses need to be re-made." Princess Meghan told Kate that she was stressed because of the wedding and the new drama surrounding her father, Thomas Markle. Kate said she understood, but the conversation "went back and forth."
"I don't know what else to say," Meghan eventually said, according to Spare. 'If the dress doesn't fit, take Charlotte to see Ajay. He's been waiting all day." Kate's reply" "Okay."
"When I arrived home a short time later, Meg was on the floor. Sobbing," Harry writes. 'I was horrified to see her so upset, but I didn't think it was a catastrophe.' The next day, Harry writes, Kate came to apologize with flowers and a card.
But now we hear from the aforementioned "Ajay." He says his team moved quickly to alter the dresses of six bridesmaids, including Charlotte, before the May 19 wedding.
"If something happened behind the scenes, it wasn't on my watch," Millepuis says. 'But weddings are stressful. They faced the same last-minute problems that everyone experiences at weddings. If the dress doesn't fit, it's understandable that anyone would be upset.
As for the short-sleeved white dresses with full skirts, "I feel for everyone because you don't want your kids to go out on the big stage in a dress that doesn't fit. All six bridesmaids' dresses had to be fixed."
According to Millepuis, the bridesmaids' dresses, when they arrived, were seen by Charlotte, as well as Harry's goddaughters Florence Van Cutsem and Zalie Warren, Meghan's goddaughters Rylan and Remi Litt, and Meghan's friend It was not likely to suit the young girls, including Ivy Mulroney, Jessica Mulroney's daughter.
"We had to work tooth and nail for four days and three nights in a row until 4 a.m.," she said. 'We left Windsor Castle at 10pm the night before the wedding. Did anyone complain about the bridesmaids' dresses or their appearance on the day? The answer is no."
