Prince Harry claims his father made shocking remarks to Princess Diana after his birth.
It appears that the concerns the royal family had about Prince Harry's forthcoming memoir, Spare, are justified.
The book will be released on January 10, but The Guardian was able to obtain a copy ahead of publication.
The paper presented a passage from the memoir claiming that William physically attacked Harry in 2019, among other shocking revelations.
They include what then-Prince Charles allegedly said to Princess Diana after Harry's birth in 1984.
According to Harry, Prince Charles said at the time, "It's wonderful! Now I have an heir and a spare.
Of course, Prince Charles and Princess Diana were famously unhappily married, and it is plausible that Prince Charles said this. However, we will probably never know for sure whether he actually did so.
According to The Guardian, the memoir focuses heavily on this "spare" theme and its emotional implications in Harry's development.
This inevitably puts Harry at odds with his brother, the heir apparent in the book. The Guardian quotes another passage in which Harry recalls his visit to England for Prince Philip's funeral in April 2021.
At the time, shortly after Harry and Meghan's controversial Oprah interview, William and Harry's relationship was strained and, in the Guardian's words, "at war."
Charles apparently stood in the middle of them and "looked up into our flushed faces" and said, "I'm sorry. Don't make my last years unhappy."
In anticipation of the book's publication next week, two interviews with Prince Harry will be broadcast in the United States and the United Kingdom on January 8.
