The world of Netflix's "The Witcher" series is already a vast one. Set 1,200 years before the hit original fantasy series, "The Witcher: Blood Origin" chronicles a pivotal event in the show's lore, as a group of warriors and mages seek revenge in the wake of a coup on the Elven continent. To bring this story to life, up-and-coming stars and well-known actors were cast in the prequel miniseries, which premiered on Christmas Day, 2022. Here are some of the faces behind this fascinating series.

Eir was born into the fearsome Raven family of Prussia. Unable to bear the brutality of acting as the sword of the monarchy, the former warrior eventually left her family and became a traveling bard. Now widely known as the lark, her revolutionary songs have become a salve for the downtrodden who live beneath the aristocracy. Though she has left her duties, she still uses her combat skills to protect the helpless.

Brown (open in new tab) is a British actress who made her debut in the British production of Sister Act the Musical. She previously appeared in shows and films such as the Netflix series Girl/Haji, the ITV series Marcella, and Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast In an interview with Marie Claire (opens in new tab), she said that playing Aylett was "a creative rebirth as an artist," she said. She will next appear in "Borderland" and "You & Me" in the UK.

A member of the dog clan of the Kingdom of Kintoria, Fillol is sworn to protect the kingdom's princess, Merwin. When he betrays his clan by getting too close to the royal family, he is exiled and ends up traveling as a mercenary. He and Ail meet as rivals, but the former clan members soon find common ground through their quest.

O'Farian (open in new tab) is an Irish actor who has appeared in several action series, including HBO's "Game of Thrones," Prime Video's "Vikings" and AMC's "Into the Badlands." The Dublin native will next be seen in the supernatural thriller Creepers.

Sian is the sole survivor of the Ghost Tribe, a group of nomadic warriors who have sworn no allegiance to the kingdom. Formerly serving as Eil's "mother of swords" and trainer, Sian was treated dishonorably and exiled when the bard abandoned her duties. She works as a mercenary to survive and longs to be reunited with her ancestral sword, the Soul Reaver.

Yeoh (open in new tab) is an action star who began her acting career in the Hong Kong film industry. When we meet Meldoff, she is trying to avenge her beautiful bearded lover Gwen, who was killed by a warrior of the Golden Empire. With her beloved warhammer, named after Gwen, in hand, she hunts down the killer.

Kalan, known as Brother Death, is a warrior and expert tracker who seeks revenge against the Golden Empire for wiping out the village that took him in. When he hears of the adventures of Eil, Fiyal, and Sukian, he immediately offers his help to them as potential new allies. He is also in love with the mage Zacare. Zachare has seen fighters at their worst and still accepted him.

Novelli (open in new tab) is a Welsh actor who has previously appeared in the BBC series The Pact, the original Peacock series The Capture, and the Lifetime TV movie The Watcher in the Woods.

Zachare is a mage who isolates himself as penance for a terrible spell he performed in the past with his celestial twin Sindril. (The two were born at the same time, in the same village, under the same burning star, and are mages especially skilled in healing magic.) Zakare's home is guarded by a fog-filled swamp that reminds visitors of their worst memories.

Sindril is a powerful mage in the service of the court of Kintoria, who can open a portal to other worlds by using an ancient dwarven monolith buried beneath the continent. Mack is a Scottish actress who made her television debut as Florence in season two of the Netflix comedy Sex Education; she has also appeared in the BBC miniseries The Nest and the British crime series Dalgliesh.

A highly ambitious wise chief, Balor is a low-life who is always looking to gain power and elevate himself within the strict caste system of Kintorea. On a journey through the monolith, he encounters a mysterious force that grants him ultimate power in exchange for a ruinous sacrifice.

Henry is a respected actor, singer, and writer who began his career as a standup comedian in the late 1970s. Since then, he has become one of the most prominent black British comedians in the world, starring in his own show, The Lenny Henry Show. He has also appeared in the films Penelope, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (voicing the shrunken head of the night bus), Broadchurch, The Sandman, and The Lord of the Rings series: The Lord of the Rings.

Captain Eredin of the Sintrian Army is played by Australian actor Collins-Levy, who previously played Henry VII in the STARZ series "The White Princess" with Jodie Comer as Elizabeth of York. She has also appeared in the Netflix series Young Wallander, a 2020 episode of Doctor Who, and the Australian series Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries.

Avallac'h is a young mage who becomes Merwin's bodyguard and draws amazing powers from the monolith. Prior to Blood Origins, Avallac'h played the role of Scorpius Malfoy in the stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He has also appeared in Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch, FX's Atlanta, and the Netflix series Peaky Blinders and The Sandman.

Witcher fan favorite Jaskaiser (Joey Beatty) learns the story of the Lark Tribe and the Golden Empire from space and time-traveling storyteller Siankai. The enigmatic character is played by Driver (opens in new tab), a British actress known for her roles in films such as Good Will Hunting, Gross Point Blank, I Give It a Year, and Beyond the Lights. She also recently appeared in the Prime Video remake of "Cinderella" and the HBO Maxx rom-com "Starstruck."
