Ginny & Georgia" Season 3: Everything We Know

The genre-bending Netflix hit "Ginny & Georgia" is back for a second season of laughs, tears, and another huge cliffhanger. Ginny (Antonia Gentry) is upset to learn that her mother Georgia (Brian Howey) murdered her late stepfather to protect her. Thankfully, Ginny doesn't leave Wellesbury for long during the season, but both mother and daughter must come to terms with Georgia's past, which continues to haunt her leading up to her wedding to Mayor Paul (Scott Porter).

Like the first installment, season two ends with many loose ends, including a final scene that completely blows up the Millers' lives. It is an ending that demands another season, and series creator Sarah Lampert is already planning what may come next. Read on for everything we know so far about "Ginny & Georgia" Season 3. There are some serious spoilers for Season 2.

Not yet. To be fair, it hasn't even been a week since Season 2 premiered, and Netflix is still waiting to renew its biggest hit (*cough* Wednesday *cough*). In an interview with Deadline, Lampert admitted that discussions about Season 3 have not yet taken place, citing Netflix's "regular" renewal process.

"So there's so much strategy in place where we think we'll drop it, and we have to wait to see how it goes and if we'll see a season 3," Lampert told the outlet.

"But it's going to be a wild ride, so I certainly hope so."

We have high hopes for the continuation of the series, which logged 381 million hours in its first season and season two is already No. 1 on the platform. The renewal announcement for Season 2 came two months after the premiere of the first season, so we'll be watching for news around spring.

Even if the show is renewed soon, it will likely be some time before the show returns. Production on season two ended in April 2022 and had to go through a lengthy post-production process before arriving in January 2023. According to Howie, even though the season itself was finished by October 2022, it will take time for Netflix to translate the series into 180 languages for a worldwide release.

"That takes about four months," the actor told E.Online (opens in new tab) last year. 'So it's not really the show itself . The show is done."

"The show is done.

Nevertheless, it is possible that Season 3 will appear sooner than the two-year gap between Season 1 and Season 2. Season 2's renewal was announced for April 2021, but filming did not begin until late November. If the show resumes filming as soon as possible, we may see new episodes around late 2024.

Just when we thought season 2 would end with a beautiful scene from Georgia and Paul's wedding (that cape, that dress, that milkshake), it was ruined when Captain Gabriel and the cops broke in during their first dance and arrested Georgia for the murder of Cynthia's husband Tom Fuller The two were arrested for the murder of Cynthia's husband, Tom Fuller. They finally arrested Georgia for the most recent of her past crimes for which there was a witness. Unfortunately, that witness was her son Austin, who, after assuring Ginny that he had not told anyone, ran into the back of a police car taking his mother to jail. (That kid needs therapy.)

Georgia's arrest alone has many clues for the program to dig into: how Georgia stays out of jail. Will Paul continue to be there for her and her children? Has her arrest ended her chances for reelection? What will happen to Cynthia and Georgia's relationship? How will Ginny and Austin react now that they know all the truth about their mother's past? There is also the issue of Gil, who will continue to fight for custody of Austin and will try to take advantage of Georgia's arrest. These include Ginny and Marcus' post-breakup friendship (Situation Ship) and the simmering attraction between Georgia and Joe.

While an official renewal is still in question, Lampert has assured fans that the creative team plans to balance all the "surprises" they have in store for season 3. She also told Deadline (opens in new tab) that Ginny and Georgia will probably evolve into another form in the new season.

"I think it's this idea that the show is going to look really different in season 3 - if there is a season 3 - because this is a woman who was a superhero for what she did and now she's been caught," she said of Georgia's arrest. 'It's like Superman has been brought down. Let's see if she can get out of this mess."

The creator also spilled on some of the conflicts that have been set up, including which parent or in-law will take over the care of Ginny and Austin.

"Hypothetically, if Georgia is charged with this crime, there is Ginny's father, Zion. 'Zion, Ginny's father; Paul, her father-in-law. We have a lot of golden possibilities for storytelling based on how rich these characters are and how many surprises we want to throw at season 3.

In an interview with Deadline, Lampert also touched on the characters' romances, including Georgia and Joe, Ginny and Marcus, and Maxine and Silver. When asked if there is any chance that Ginny and Marcus will get back together, she hinted that once the writers start working, there could be a big change.

"As far as season 3, everything is a gamble. There could be new characters, who knows?"

"Season 3 is still up in the air. The writers' room process is very much about us (showrunner Debra J. Fisher and I) going in with a plan. We plan everything out and have a really structured idea of what we want the piece to look like. But in the writers' room, everything is constantly changing, more brains are at the table, and better ideas are generated. In the writers' room, the best ideas win, so you can say right now what the plan is, and it may be very different from what you see on the screen."

Gentry has her own opinion on whether the teens should get together again, telling TV Guide (open in new tab) that they should probably remain friends for now. (After all, Ginny has a lot going on.)

"Ginny told the outlet, "My mother has that layer of like a killer," all this stuff. 'I think they ought to be the right friends. I think they need to be there for each other in a way that doesn't have strings attached."
