Prince William and Princess Kate's U.S. Visit Could Cause "A Little Hysteria," Royal Expert Says
It's Princess William and Princess Kate's visit week to the US!
If, like me, you are one of the many Americans who do not get to experience official royal visits on a daily basis, you will not be surprised to hear that I am excited about this!
If you, like me, are disproportionately excited about this, you may not be surprised to hear that many Americans who cannot routinely experience official royal visits are as well (not that the British are either, but you get the gist).
Many have commented that this is a chance for the Prince and Princess to leave their mark on America, a different approach than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who have lived in California since 2020.
"William and Kate have always been popular in the U.S., but based on their experience over the past few years, they will be more aware than ever of their relationship with American audiences," royal family expert Christine Ross tells Marie Claire.
Perhaps the expert is referring to the intertwining of the Sussex couple's appearance in the US, the COVID epidemic, the fact that the Welsh couple has not crossed the Atlantic since their last visit to New York in 2014, and more recently the death of Queen Elizabeth II
"The current situation is a result of the recent events in New York.
"This visit," Ross continues, "is undoubtedly an opportunity to reaffirm the longstanding affection Americans have for the Royal Family.
"The trip will give Prince William the opportunity to share the ambitious Earthshot Prize with U.S. audiences and expand the audience for the award.
The royal couple will present the second annual Earthshot Prize at a lavish gala on Friday. Prince William launched the initiative to support efforts to reverse climate change.
"A visit to the United States is so unusual for William and Kate that it tends to cause a bit of hysteria among onlookers eager to catch a glimpse of the royal family on their royal home turf," Ross adds. 17]
"This trip is the first time in the royal family in the last few years After so many changes, it will be a good way for American audiences to assess their place in the public eye."
"The Royal Family is a very important part of our family,"
Ross adds.
The royal couple will be in Boston for three days starting today, Wednesday, and will receive a warm welcome from the city's mayor, Michelle Wu.
Significantly, Mayor Wu embodies the vertigo to which Ross alluded. He said, "I can't wait to show [Prince William and Princess Catherine] the new Boston. It will be as exciting as when the prince's grandmother visited Boston decades ago," she said on Radio Boston this week (via Boston Globe).
