Katie Holmes never fails.

The actress/style icon appeared at the recent Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards at Casa Cipriani in New York City in a sheer crystal-studded midi dress by Jonathan Simkhai (opens in new tab), looking like She looked like a fairy tale princess from the 1920s. It was sleeveless, had a simple round neck, and fringed calves.

Holmes paired this gorgeous dress with beige heeled strap sandals, a sparkling clutch bag, diamond tennis bracelets, and equally dazzling drop earrings.

The phrase "look like a million bucks" was basically invented for her.

At one point, the First Daughter star was even photographed walking up the stairs looking like an old Hollywood actress.

As a date, Holmes brought her dress designer and CFDA member Jonathan Simkhai himself.

Holmes was not the only incredibly stylish VIP at the CFDA Awards. Kim Kardashian looked gorgeous in a tight, strapless PVC gown with bleached blonde hair slicked back.

Natalia Bryant, volleyball player and daughter of the late basketball player Kobe Bryant, wore a long-sleeved coral pink gown with a hood.

Keke Palmer wore one of the best outfits I have ever seen, a matching off-the-shoulder floral gown and floral knee-high boots.

Julia Fox wore a very brand new cut-out black gown that basically looked like she was wearing a (very fashionable) underwear set.

So the opportunities for people-watching were off the charts on this night.
