Dame Jane Goodall, friend of Prince Harry, reveals that she wanted to raise her son Archie in Africa.
Prince Harry has long had an emotional connection to the African continent, and according to noted primatologist and anthropologist (and friend of Harry) Ms. Jane Goodall, if the prince had his way, he would have raised his son Archie in Africa.
Before moving from England to Montecito, California (where Harry now lives with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Archie and Lilibet), the Duke of Sussex had dreams of moving to Africa, Richard Eden of the Daily Mail reported in Tatler magazine reported.
"He wanted to raise Archie in Africa and run barefoot with African children," Goodall reportedly said.
Archie was born in England on May 6, 2019, and by the end of that year the family of three had emigrated to Canada and then to the United States in early 2020, where they remain today. Lilibet was born on June 4, 2021 in the United States.
According to Tatler, Harry has visited Africa many times over the years, and in the early years of Harry and Meghan's relationship in 2016, just three weeks after their first date, they first visited the continent together.
"I managed to convince her to come with me to Botswana and we camped with each other under the stars," he later revealed.
He also spent time in Mozambique with his ex-girlfriend Chelsea Davey, who is from Zimbabwe.
Harry & Meghan (with 4-month-old Archie) officially visited Africa in 2019, on a royal tour with stops in South Africa, Malawi, Angola, and Botswana. Harry also co-founded Sentebale in 2006 with Prince Siso of Lesotho, a charity set up to help African children affected by poverty, inequality, HIV/AIDS, and most recently COVID-19.
Fate eventually took them to California, but according to Tatler, "In 2019, there were reports suggesting that palace aides were drawing up plans to give the Duke and Duchess of Sussex big international jobs with the possibility of moving abroad." Africa was always rumored to be on the list of places the couple wanted to go.
