Princess Kate Expresses "Confidence and Determination" in New Video Message, Body Language Expert Says

Princess Kate has been committed to the de-recognition of addiction in the UK since 2012, and her experience shows, body language experts said.

The Princess of Wales has just released a new video message to mark the start of Addiction Awareness Week, in which she calls on everyone to change their preconceptions about addiction, and for those directly affected by addiction to have compassion for themselves and seek help when needed.

She says, "Know that addiction is not a choice. No one chooses to be addicted. I want you to know that this is also a serious health condition. Don't let shame keep you from getting the help you desperately need."

The princess spoke on the Forward Trust's YouTube channel, and according to body language expert Judy James, her speech was exemplary. [She] sat up straight for the camera and made a strong case for the issue of addiction with unwavering eye contact," James told the Express.

"There is a sense of authority in the way she speaks, but her poses are modest, she sits in the middle of a wide sofa and doesn't stand tall to send out power signals.

James delved deeper into Kate's expression and posture.

"Kate doesn't smile to show the seriousness of her message.

"Her arms are slightly off to the side to suggest confidence and determination."

"Furthermore, the slight tilt of her head supports a sense of confidence and a desire to project a message that she wholeheartedly endorses."

"Kate is not smiling, but rather is looking at the message from her heart.

Princess Kate became a patron of Action on Addiction in 2012 and has been a patron of the Forward Trust since 2021, when the two organizations merged.

According to the Action on Addiction website, the annual Addiction Awareness Week aims to "shed light on the complex causes of addiction and challenge the prejudices surrounding addiction."
