Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship with Netflix may deteriorate over "The Crown," Princess Diana's death, royal experts say
Netflix has made a decision that could be considered either a stroke of genius or a total disaster: Netflix has chosen to simultaneously produce "The Crown," a controversial dramatization of recent royal history, and a documentary about "At Home with the Sussexes."
The latter has reportedly already been postponed to appease royal advocates (i.e., former British Prime Minister John Major), but one royal expert is predicting another obstacle: how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will react to how Princess Diana's death will be depicted in "The Crown" season 6 Another obstacle is also anticipated.
"The relationship between Netflix and Harry & Meghan will definitely deteriorate if Princess Diana's death is deemed vulgar in The Crown," commentator Kinsey Schofield told the Express. [But] they got an incredibly large check from Netflix. Some might say they have already sold their souls. What can they do?
"The Sussexes must fulfill their contractual obligations before moving on."
Still, as it stands, the moment of Diana's death, "the exact moment of impact of the crash will not be shown," Netflix has confirmed, so it may not cause needless controversy.
But if that were to happen and the streaming giant had to choose between the two shows, Scofield argues that the choice is clear.
"I think Netflix would definitely choose 'The Crown' over 'Harry and Meghan,'" she says.
"It's a very well-known scripted series that put Netflix on the original content map. It was an award-winning game changer for the streaming giant."
"Harry and Meghan have yet to prove themselves in Hollywood."
The Duchess's Archetypes podcast has been a huge success since the first episode was released in August, but viewers (and producers no doubt) are still waiting to see what the royal couple and Netflix's collaboration will ultimately I'm eagerly awaiting. Personally, I can't wait.
