Queen Camilla often "took the lead" for King Charles III, book claims
Queen Camilla has personal as well as professional influence over King Charles III, according to a new book by royal family expert Katie Nicole.
In her book, The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth's Legacy and the Future of the Crown (opens in new tab) (opens in new tab) (available Tuesday), Nicole says Camilla has "called the shots" at times, writing that she gave Charles major decisions like firing Michael Fawcett, Charles' closest aide, in 2021. Camilla also disagreed with Prince Charles' son, Prince Harry, about how to handle family matters, Insider reported.
Nicole adds that Prince Charles would practice his speeches for Camilla and put ideas into action; in 2021, after Prince Charles was accused of offering the Saudi tycoon a knighthood in exchange for a $2 million donation, she told Charles told the prince to fire Fawcett. Following the allegations, Fawcett eventually resigned as CEO of the foundation.
An unnamed friend of Camilla's told Nicole for the book that the new wife told her husband to fire Fawcett. She had kicked Michael out. She was never a fan of Fawcett, and she knew how damaging this would be to Charles' reign."[7
Also in the book, Nicole details how Camilla asserted herself against Harry after he suggested that the Royal Family hire a third party to resolve their problems as a family.
"He actually suggested using a mediator to settle things, which left Charles somewhat bewildered and Camilla sipping her tea," Camilla's friend told Nicole.
"Camilla told Harry that was ridiculous, that they were a family and they would work it out themselves."
"Marie Claire" reported in February that Prince Charles' coronation plans called for Prince Charles and Camilla to be crowned side by side. Insider also reported that despite her new role as queen, Camilla will retain some of her independence.
