New Crown Prince and Princess Inherit Secret Residence in Wales

The new Prince and Princess of Wales inherited a so-called "secret" mansion tucked away in the Welsh countryside after the Queen's death last month -- (try spelling without double or triple checking) the Llwynywermod Estate outside Mydddfai.

According to the Mirror, the quiet farmhouse is in a corner of Carmarthenshire, a large ancient estate that Prince Charles purchased 15 years ago. Prince Charles had been Prince of Wales for more than 50 years and had stayed at the Llwynnywelmod Estate when on duty in Wales.

Now that William is Prince of Wales, it is effective from September 9, the day after Her late Majesty the Queen died peacefully at Balmoral at the age of 96. As the eldest son of the ruling monarch, William now owns the Duchy of Cornwall. The Duchy of Cornwall is a private estate established in 1337 by King Edward III to grant independence to his son and heir, Prince Edward. Kensington Palace has confirmed that everything that forms part of the Duchy belongs to the Dukedom of Cornwall, including the Ruwynnywelmod Estate, which was reportedly purchased by the Dukes of Cornwall for £1.2 million in 2007.

The estate consists of three cottages, a barn, and a main house, and is surrounded by 192 acres of Welsh countryside; according to the Mirror, Charles spent 40 years searching for the perfect country retreat before settling on Llwynnywelmod. Prince Charles often rests there, and parts of the estate can actually be reserved by the public.

According to locals, Charles attended church services on Sunday mornings with minimal fanfare, donated prizes to local raffles, and officially opened the new village hall.

Although the estate now belongs to William and Kate, William and Kate have a deeply meaningful history in Wales: from 2010 to 2013, when William was stationed in the area as a Royal Air Force search and rescue helicopter pilot, the couple lived in Anglesey in north Wales for three years. This was a significant time for William and Kate, when they became engaged in 2010, married in 2011, and welcomed their first child, Prince George, in 2013.
