Prince William and Kate Middleton, already with new titles
Ultimately, Prince William and Kate Middleton are expected to be given the titles Prince of Wales and Princess of Wales by King Charles III. However, just hours after Queen Elizabeth II's death on Thursday at age 96, William and Kate's social media accounts were updated to reflect their latest titles, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (previously only the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge).
The King and Queen held the title of Duke and Duchess of Cornwall before the King took the throne today. Prince Charles rarely assumed the title of Duke of Cornwall and almost always assumed the title of Prince of Wales."
According to the Mirror, "King Charles has also made his eldest son, William, the title traditionally given to the heir to the throne, the Prince of Wales, a title traditionally given to the heir to the throne."
The Mirror reported that "King Charles is expected to make William the Prince of Wales.
The King and Queen were already in Scotland today when it was announced that the Queen needed medical attention. William had left for Balmoral with Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, while Kate remained in Windsor to pick up Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis from school in Lambrook.
The reigning as Charles III was confirmed by Prince Charles' office at Clarence House. In a statement released today, the King said, "The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and my whole family."
The King and Queen will return to London from Balmoral tomorrow.
