Buckingham Palace Announces Memorial Schedule Following Queen's Passing

The Queen sadly passed away on September 8, but plans for what would happen upon her death had been made years in advance, and we knew many of the events that would follow. [The date of the Queen's funeral has not yet been confirmed, but it is expected that it will probably take place at Westminster Abbey and that Queen Elizabeth II's body will be laid to rest in St. George's Chapel in Windsor.

Now Buckingham Palace has shared its official tour schedule, royal reporter Omid Scobie said on Twitter.

Scobie wrote, "Buckingham Palace has shared details of mourning and condolence arrangements, including King Charles' wish for a period of royal mourning 'from now until seven days after the Queen's funeral' and the timing of the gun salute in London today."

The period of mourning at the royal palace "will be observed by members of the royal family, royal staff, royal representatives on official business, and troops engaged in ceremonial duties."

Measures include the flying of the Royal Palace flag at half-staff as a sign of respect, a Royal Palace gun salute in London's Hyde Park at 1pm BST (8am EST), and the closing of the Royal Palace.

The Buckingham Palace statement also includes guidance for "members of the public wishing to make floral tributes to the Royal Residence." It indicates where flowers can be laid at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Sandringham Manor, Balmoral Castle, Palace of Holyroodhouse, and Hillsborough Castle.

Each mansion does not have a "physical condolence book," but there is an online condolence book where condolences can be donated.
