Kate Middleton changes engagement ring to "avoid her worst nightmare"
Every bride-to-be wants to see the ring. But when Kate Middleton was a bride, literally everyone in the entire world wanted to see her ring. Even if it had not belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, they would have seen it.
The ring, a 12-carat blue sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds, was an engagement ring that Kate had reportedly loved ever since Prince William proposed to her in Kenya in 2010. However, shortly before their wedding on April 29, 2011, "Kate actually changed the ring,"
according to the Mirror, after realizing that the band was too large and "spun around on her finger."
According to the magazine, the ring was taken to royal jeweler G. Collins & Sons, which "reworked it to fit better," the magazine wrote.
"Rather than resize the band, however, a small platinum bead was installed inside the bottom of the ring, supposedly to make it fit better.
At the time, a source told The Sun that the current Duchess of Cambridge "loves" the ring, but it was too large for her finger.
"A bride's worst nightmare is to look down and see the ring falling off," the source said.
"It's hard to imagine how much bigger it will be when she marries the future King of England.
Another interesting tidbit about the ring 'It was actually originally supposed to be worn by Meghan, but at the time no one had any idea who Harry would eventually marry.'
After Diana's death in 1997, Princess Diana's engagement ring was originally Harry's ring, but since William was ready to propose to Kate long before Harry proposed to Meghan (William proposed in 2010, six years before Harry and Meghan met), Harry "selflessly" gave up the ring so that Kate allowed her to keep the ring, Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, said on the "Diana Story" program.
"After Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris in 1997, Prince Charles allowed his sons to keep a selection from her jewelry collection," the Mirror reported. Shortly before William proposed to his current wife, Kate, in 2010, Harry offered the bride-to-be the chance to present his brother with his mother's ring."
Oh, how we long for the days of brotherly intimacy again.
