Meghan Markle was "set up" for "hardship" as a member of the Royal Family, says actress Denae Benton.

Meghan Markle had a truly awful time while serving as senior royalty, even admitting to feeling suicidal in that role.

As you know, many of the difficulties she encountered were due to instances of racism, involving factors such as arguments about Archie's skin color before his death and abusive treatment at the hands of the tabloid press.

For Denée Benton, the actress in The Gilded Age, the Duchess of Sussex was "set up" to face these difficulties. Speaking to Tatler magazine, Benton said of the situation.

"It is clear that this is such a multi-layered conversation.

"You are the first and only (person of color) who is really set up for incredible abuse-the system is not set up to support you.

"And I don't think you can necessarily pop in black people because of the genealogy of the really deep and devastating effects of colonization associated with the monarchy. [Earlier this year, when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Caribbean and were protested by the local population, they also saw significant criticism of the Royal Family's historical connection to colonization. It is clear that there is still a large amount of work to be done locally regarding racism and inequality.

"There is a lot of reckoning," Benton said, speaking more specifically about Markle's situation within the farm. [Unless you are ready to do the job, the person put in that position is going to suffer more than the change he or she is capable of making."

"It takes much more than one person coming in to make all the changes. It doesn't work

"They can just be devoured or they can choose to defend themselves, and [in the latter case] I give you my power, sister! that's what it's like."
