'Outlander' Season 5 First Air Date, Spoilers and Everything Else You Need to Know
Starz and Sony Pictures Television announced last year (opens in new tab) that the drama would be renewed for two more seasons, and now the premiere date for season five has finally been set! Outlander will return on Sunday, February 16, 2020. It will be less than six months before we see the dreamy Sam Heughan (opens in new tab) on screen again. [Fans can rest assured that Seasons 5 and 6 will continue the story of the Fraser family as they delve into American history and settle in the New World," said Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht in a statement last May (opens in new tab).
Here's everything we know about the upcoming season.
Finally! A new trailer for the fifth season, which you can watch here, was released on January 3 (opens in a new tab). The trailer opens with Claire's voice saying to Jamie: "Do you ever feel like everything is going into something? Space. Time. Space, time, history. ...... I am grateful for every day that I have right now."
Starz also recently released a series of teaser photos for the new season.
In an October 2019 interview with ET Online (opens in new tab), the show's stars Caitriona Balfe and Heughan shared some teasers about what we can expect from Jamie and Claire's love story in season 5.
"This season is really strong for everyone," Balfe said. 'But for Claire and Jamie, it's the depth of this beautiful relationship. What's great about being on the show this long is that you really get to live with these characters, and as they get older, there's a lot of wisdom that comes with it, and they get to know each other so well. The love deepens. I think people fall in love more with early passion than they do with everyday connections.
But that "deeper love," according to Heughan, does not mean, of course, that the show does not have the understated comedy and sexiness we might expect.
"There's still plenty of humor. There's still plenty of passion." But I think this whole season is about family, and about families needing each other to fight outside forces."
According to Deadline (opens in new tab), the 12-episode fifth season is currently in production in Scotland. In the meantime, fans can catch the official panel with the cast at New York Comic-Con 2019 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, October 5, 2019.
