Michelle Williams delivers powerful speech at Golden Globe Awards

Michelle Williams gave a very nice speech at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards for best performance by an actress in a miniseries or television movie, appealing to women to vote in the 2020 election. She began by thanking the HFPA for recognizing the choices she has made throughout her life, not only as an actress, but also for the education she has received and her right to choose whether or not to have an abortion.

Williams, 39, is pregnant with her second child, which made this speech all the more powerful. Busy Phillips, who Williams walked the red carpet with, shed a tear during her best friend's speech. Williams concluded: "Women, ages 18 to 118, when you vote, do it for your own good. That's what men have been doing for years and that's why the world looks the way it does."

Read the full speech below:

"First of all, I want to thank my Fosse/Veldon family and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association from the bottom of my heart. To put this in someone's hands is to acknowledge the choices they made as an actor, moment by moment, scene by scene, day by day, but also the choices they made as a person, the education they pursued, the training they sought, the time they spent. As a woman, as a girl, I am not a woman or a girl, and things can happen to my body that are not my own choice.

I have done my best to live my life on my own terms. It was not a series of events that happened to me that I could look back on and recognize my handwriting. When and with whom I will have children. I knew, as all mothers do, that the scales would tip toward the child. Now, my choices may look different than yours, but I thank God and those for whom you pray that we live in a country founded on the principle that I have the freedom to live my life and you have the freedom to live yours.

So, women between the ages of 18 and 118, when the time comes to vote, do so for your own good. That is what men have been doing for years and that is why the world looks the way it does. Remember, we are the largest voting bloc in this country. Tommy and Matilda, I can't wait to go home to you."
